Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that Ashley Vanderlugt (Fiscalini) and Lisa Stewart are will be coaching our competitive 12U Girls Green competitive team for the 2021-22 indoor season.
Ashley will be the head coach. She has been playing volleyball for 25 years and is a former University of Windsor Lancer varsity player. She previously coached for the Scorpions in the 2016-2017 season. Lisa Stewart has over 25 yrs playing experience and was the head coach of two Scorpions competitive teams last season. Paul Langan, Scorpions Club Founder states," We welcome Ashley back to our Scorpions family. Ashley and Lisa together, with all their experience, will make a great coaching combo for these young athletes." Tryouts for our competitive teams will take place when the school board allow us to use the gym. Normally the tryouts are in September. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that Arvin Adeva and Kirk Mojica will coach the Scorpions 15U Boys Competitive Team.
Arvin Adeva has over 20 years international coaching experience as well as being a trainer. Kirk Mojica brings extensive indoor and beach volleyball international coaching/playing/refereeing background to the club Paul Langan, President Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club states, "When Mark Morell stepped down from coaching this team the club wanted to make sure we had top quality coaches to replace Mark. Arvin and Kirk are excellent coaches with international playing and coaching experience. " Due to the pandemic, we are not certain when the tryouts/ season will begin this fall/winter. This is the 5th season with the club.
Philip has over 23 years coaching and playing experience in the sport of volleyball. He played for Sheridan College for three years and then went on to coach at West Side Volleyball Club (Rexdale, ON), as a head coach for U14 to U18, for approx. 5 seasons. He also coached college level volleyball for 5 seasons at Tyndale College in Toronto, ON. He has coached younger ages also. Michelle Wobst has been playing competitive volleyball for over 33 years. Jessna Marmo, enters her fifth year coaching for the club after a standout varsity career playing for the Mohawk College women's varsity team for 4 years. She also previously coached high school volleyball teams. She will be assisted by former Scorpions player and coach Brianna Downey and Devon Maguire who joined the club last year as our 13u boys coach. This year David Aitken has stepped into the Head Coach role and Kayla and David Duhan will be his Assistant Coaches. The team in their last full year of play in 2019-2020 was ranked 29th out of 196 teams in Ontario. Paul Langan, Scorpions founder states, " The potential for that team has always been there. Renee Michiels is a former University of Windsor Lancer varsity player. She has over 15 years experience playing in adult women's leagues. She is returning to the Scorpions for her 5th year as the Head Coach of the 18U Green Girls Team. Samantha Warner is a former Scorpion club player and varsity player with the University of Waterloo Warriors. Samantha Warner will be returning for her third year as an assistant coach. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is the largest beach and indoor volleyball club in the Waterloo Region. The SIRC grant will allow the club to update the following policies and training requirements to ensure they are current and the coaches and members of the club are educated on them. The policies being updated include: Harassment & Bullying Prevention and Concussion Prevention and Protocols. The grant will also allow more coaches to be trained in online Safe Sport Initiative Training. Paul Langan, Scorpions President states, "We are grateful to the SIRC for this money to update our policies and training. It will be held on Saturday August 21st, 2021 in Cambridge, Ontario.
2021-07-16...The Scorpions Volleyball Club are the originators in Ontario in hosting youth public grass volleyball festival. Their first tournament was in 2014. It has grown to be the largest event for youth in Canada. Here are the details.

Festival Contact Paul Langan at info@scorpionsvolleyball.ca The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that Chantal Lapierre is one of the recipients of the Scorpions Academic Excellence Bursary Award for 2021. The bursary is given to Scorpions 18U players that, because of achieving over 85% in their final year, have won a Scorpions Academic Excellence Bursary of $500. They must have been accepted to and will be attending a post secondary institution in the fall 2021. Chantal has been in the Scorpions program since 2013, starting in the Development Program for one year, then in our Competitive Program from 12u to 18u. She played in the Scorpions beach program from 12u to 16u. She has assisted with many Scorpions program both Developmental and Non-competitive indoor and beach programs. Academically Chantal is a graduate of École Secondaire Père-René de Galinée with an overall average of 90.3% and she will graduate with her full Certification of Bilingualism. Next year Chantal will be studying at the University of Guelph in the program of Child Studies. Chantal is hoping to pursue a teaching career, in particular with special needs children. Chantal hopes to continue with volleyball in the future, whether that be coaching or getting her full certification for refereeing. Congratulations Chantal for being a Scorpion for 8 years and best of luck in your post secondary studies. She also played in the Scorpions beach program and is a member of Team Ontario Beach. Academically, Syree just completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a 90.29 percent at St John's Kilmarnock School in Higher Level IB Biology, Chemistry and French studies. Next year Syree will be studying LIfe Sciences at Brandon University, Manitoba. Syree is hoping to pursue a medical degree. Syree Tucker will also play varsity volleyball with the Brandon University Bobcats.
