![]() Cambridge Times – The Ontario Volleyball Association recently ran their 17U McGregor Cup Tournaments throughout the province and the under-16 Scorpions played up an age group in the tournament’s Trillium Division, coming away with a bronze medal. In pool play, the Scorpions beat the Brant Tornadoes U16 2-0 (25-17, 25-13), then lost to the South County Bandits 2-0 (20-25, 22-25). The Scorpions rebounded to beat the Twin Bridges Thunder 2-0 (25-17, 25-16) and Stratford 2-1 (25-19, 14-25, 15-12) in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals, the Scorpions lost to the Kent Chaos 2-0 (25-9, 25-23) to drop to the bronze medal game, where they beat Forest City 2-0 (25-16, 25-12). In addition, the 17U Scorpions played in the Premier Division, the top level in Ontario, and finished fifth. The Scorpions are Emily Zadori, Amy Cureton, Sydney Haefling, Tori Kozak, Emily Cowley, Claire Gagne, Alana Beirness, Sierra Wessel, Brittany Schmidt, Anika Roller, Brianna Downeye and Jadyn Pestill. The Scorpions struggled in their first set against the Oakville Thunder Blue 14U, losing in three sets (26-24, 21-25, 12-15). But the team bounced back to beat the Guelph Grizzlies and Halton Hurricanes in straight sets. In the semifinals, the Scorpions beat the Mountain Volleyball club of Hamilton in a tough three-set victory. In the gold medal game, they avenged an earlier tournament loss with a straight set win over the Oakville Thunder. The girls lived up to their billing, winning gold at the tournament, without losing a set. In pool play, the Scorpions beat the London Sharks and LVA Ignite. The Scorpions will be adding a third volleyball camp this year. There is a growing demand on the club to increase their summer programs. One of their camps is a Girls Skills Indoor Camp that will run July 7th -11th in Cambridge. It is a half day camp. Morning - 8:30-noon (born, 2001, 2002 and 2003), Afternoon - 1-4:00pm (born 2000 and earlier). The cost is $120.00. if you register in more than one camp the price is reduced. The location of the camp will be a gym in Cambridge. The camp director is volleyball coach Keith Wasylik. Mark brings to the club a wealth of experience. He has played at the university level and continues to coach at the high school level. Mark's 2012 Jacob Junior Girls Team won the WCSSAA title going undefeated all season. We welcome Mark back to our Scorpions family. ![]() We are very proud to announce the return of Barb and Darci Martindale to our Scorpions Coaching Staff. Both are excellent leaders.
