Scorpions 16U Win Bronze

Cambridge Times – The Ontario Volleyball Association recently ran their 17U McGregor Cup Tournaments throughout the province and the under-16 Scorpions played up an age group in the tournament’s Trillium Division, coming away with a bronze medal.

In pool play, the Scorpions beat the Brant Tornadoes U16 2-0 (25-17, 25-13), then lost to the South County Bandits 2-0 (20-25, 22-25).

The Scorpions rebounded to beat the Twin Bridges Thunder 2-0 (25-17, 25-16) and Stratford 2-1 (25-19, 14-25, 15-12) in the quarter-finals.

In the semifinals, the Scorpions lost to the Kent Chaos 2-0 (25-9, 25-23) to drop to the bronze medal game, where they beat Forest City 2-0 (25-16, 25-12).

In addition, the 17U Scorpions played in the Premier Division, the top level in Ontario, and finished fifth.
The Scorpions are Emily Zadori, Amy Cureton, Sydney Haefling, Tori Kozak, Emily Cowley, Claire Gagne, Alana Beirness, Sierra Wessel, Brittany Schmidt, Anika Roller, Brianna Downeye and Jadyn Pestill. Head coach is Vaughn McMillan.

The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club announce another expansion of their summer beach volleyball program in Cambridge, ON.

WireService.ca Press Release - 01/27/2014 - Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club are pleased to provide the details of their extensive summer Beach Volleyball Program for boys and girls.

The Scorpions Volleyball Club has now over four hundred and fifty youth involved in their summer beach programs. They are pleased to announce one of the largest and most diverse beach volleyball programs in Ontario.

The Beach Program will consist of :

  • (born 2004-2005) GIANT Scorpions Learn to Play Program
  • (born 2002-2003) SUN Scorpions - Drills & 4V4 House League
  • (born 2000-2001) SAND Scorpions - 4v4 House League
  • (born 1999-1996) HIGH SCHOOL - 4v4 House League
  • Competitive Beach Program with 35 duos ages 12U to 18U playing on the Ontario Volleyball Association Beach Tour
  • Beach Camp - June 30-July 4th, 2014 - 4 half day sessions. Head Coach is Olympian Bronze Medalist Janet Cobbs-Mulholland.(born 2003 and earlier)
  • The club will be hosting at least 4 beach tournaments including two for house league.

Scorpions Sting Thunder in GOLD medal final

CAMBRIDGE - The under-15 Scorpions girls’ volleyball team headed down to Hamilton for their Ontario Volleyball Association tournament recently and returned home with a gold medal.

The Scorpions struggled in their first set against the Oakville Thunder Blue 14U, losing in three sets (26-24, 21-25, 12-15). But the team bounced back to beat the Guelph Grizzlies and Halton Hurricanes in straight sets.

In the semifinals, the Scorpions beat the Mountain Volleyball club of Hamilton in a tough three-set victory. In the gold medal game, they avenged an earlier tournament loss with a straight set win over the Oakville Thunder.

Scorpion U13 girls bring home gold from Stratford

Cambridge Times - STRATFORD - The Scorpions under-13 girls’ volleyball team arrived in Stratford as the top seed in the Ontario Volleyball Association Tournament.

The girls lived up to their billing, winning gold at the tournament, without losing a set.

In pool play, the Scorpions beat the London Sharks and LVA Ignite. In quarters, they beat the under-12 Predators, then took down LVC Fire in the semifinals and Forest City Green in the finals.

Press Release: Scorpions Volleyball Hire Keith Wasylik as Director of the Girls Skills Camp

The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has hired Keith Wasylik as Director of their Girls Skills Volleyball Camp July 7-11th, Cambridge, ON.

WireService.ca Press Release - 01/20/2014 - Cambridge, Ontario -The Scorpions Volleyball Club of Cambridge, will have over 500 youth registered in their beach programs and camps this summer. The Scorpions will be adding a third volleyball camp this year.

There is a growing demand on the club to increase their summer programs. One of their camps is a Girls Skills Indoor Camp that will run July 7th -11th in Cambridge. It is a half day camp. Morning - 8:30-noon (born, 2001, 2002 and 2003), Afternoon - 1-4:00pm (born 2000 and earlier).

The cost is $120.00. if you register in more than one camp the price is reduced. The location of the camp will be a gym in Cambridge.

The camp director is volleyball coach Keith Wasylik. Keith is a Certified Level 3 Coach, former Ontario Volleyball Technical Director, with 30 years of coaching experience.

Scorpions Club founder Paul Langan states," We are fortunate to have a coach of Keith Wasylik's calibre in charge of our Girls Skills Volleyball Camp. He is simply one of the best coaches in Ontario. His lifetime of experience in Canadian volleyball both on and off the court is impressive."

The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club announces the hiring of former Canadian National Beach Volleyball player Paul Podstawka to help coach the boys and girls in the Scorpions competitive beach duo program.

WireService.ca Press Release - 01/16/2014 - Cambridge, Ontario - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is looking forward to the upcoming beach volleyball season.

The club will have a comprehensive program including house league and competitive duos. They estimate 500 youth will be registered in their beach program including approximately 30 duos participating in the OVA Beach Tour.

The club have hired Paul Podstawka, a former 2X Canadian National Beach Team Member, 3X National Beach Champion, 5X Provincial Beach Champion and 5 Year FIVB World Beach Tour Participant, to join the Scorpions Beach Competitive Duos Coaching staff.

Paul Langan, President Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club states, " Paul Podstawka has represented Canada on the world stage in beach volleyball. His international experience and knowledge of the game will take our competitive beach program to the next level.

Mark Frayne Joins Scorpions Coaching Staff

Jacob Hespeler Secondary School Teacher and Volleyball Coach Mark Frayne has re-joined the Scorpions Coaching Staff to Coordinate our Grade 5 and 6 Developmental House League Program.

Mark brings to the club a wealth of experience. He has played at the university level and continues to coach at the high school level.

Mark's 2012 Jacob Junior Girls Team won the WCSSAA title going undefeated all season. 

We welcome Mark back to our Scorpions family.

Both are excellent leaders. They ran our Grade 5&6 Beach House League program last summer.

This winter they are helping with our Grade 7&8 House League indoor program. We are fortunate to have them in our club. Welcome Back!
