The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce the tryout schedule for the boys and girls competitive teams for the 2016/17 indoor season.
WireService.ca Press Release (07/26/2016) Cambridge Ontario - The Scorpions Volleyball Club is the largest indoor and beach volleyball club in the Waterloo Region. They had over 1000 registered players in the club in 2015. The club has finalized the schedule for the boys and girls competitive indoor teams for the 2016-2017 season. The tryouts will occur the weekend of September 10th and 11th 2016 in Cambridge Ontario. Players are expected to attend both tryout days. There is no charge to attend the tryouts. The club will have competitive girls teams for those born from 2006 to 1999. The club will competitive boys teams for those born 2005 to 2001. The growth and expansion of their competitive program is directly related to the large growth in their Learn to Play and House League programs. Paul Langan, Founder of the club states, "We are excited about the continual positive growth of our competitive indoor volleyball program. This year we will have 14 competitive volleyball teams and 2 Select teams. Volleyball continues to grow as an affordable sport for youth in the community." Are You Ready for the Upcoming Tryouts?
On August 29th, 30th and 31st at Heritage College in Cambridge Coach and Bronze Medalist Olympian Janet Cobbs Mulholland and other Scorpions Competitive Coaches will run Sessions at Heritage College. Here is the schedule. 8:30-11am, 11-13U girls (born 2006 - 2004) 11:30am-2pm, 14 and 15U girls (2003-2002) 2:30-5pm, 16-18U girls (2001- 1999) 6-8:30pm, 13-16U boys (2006 - 2001) The cost is $90. to attend all three sessions. Team Ontario is the highest level of training and competition that the OVA provides to young Ontarians. This program serves as a precursor to post-secondary volleyball as well as to the national indoor team program. Team Ontario athletes may compete at Canada Games and even represent the province internationally depending on the age group. Maddi is currently training with the team at Brock University in St Catharines ON. She will participate in the National Team Challenge Cup in Richmond, BC - During the competition Volleyball Canada will identify 36 players to be part of the Youth National Development Program. JASON MULHOLLAND - Jason will co-coach with Vaughan McMillan the 16U Boys team. Jason is a former national team member, 4 time All- American at University of Southern California and according to the coaches there, "Jason is one of the best players in the country if not the best". He later played professional volleyball in Turkey before returning to Cambridge. For more on Jason CLICK HERE. NICOLE COLLARD - Nicole recently completed her studies at the University of Guelph where she played on the Gryphons varsity volleyball team for 4 years. Nicole brings her enthusiasm and athletic skill to help Head Coach David Kay with the 15U Boys competitive team. JOHN ASTORINO - John has played volleyball for over 20 years and has been an integral part of the Scorpions development program. John returns to help head Coach Andrew Kim with the 14U Boys competitive team. The 13U Boys are co-coached by Aleks Poldma and James Evans therefore will not have an assistant coach. The 12U Boys Select team will be chosen later. WireService.ca Press Release (07/11/2016) Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club from Cambridge Ontario will have 14 competitive, 4 select teams and approximately 300 youth in their house league indoor programs. They are proud to announce the 4 competitive boys teams head coaches. The competitive boys team coaches for the 2016-17 indoor season are: 13U Boys – Aleks Poldma and James Evans – With over 10 years varsity volleyball playing experience between them, Alexs and James will bring excitement to our volleyball program. 14U Boys - Andrew Kim – A quality coach whose ability get the most out of the team was demonstrated last year in the dramatic improvement in our 13U boys team. He has 20 years of playing experience in volleyball. He is a proven asset to the club. 15U Boys – David Kay – He is a fully certified Level 3 coach with 17 years of coaching in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. He was a 5 time Alberta Colleges Athletic Association volleyball coach of the year. This is David’s first year with the team and he is looking forward to building a strong team. 16U Boys – Vaughan McMillan – Vaughan is a former player and coach of Brock University Men’s Team. He is entering his 5th year coaching for the Scorpions and is considered one of the top coaches in the club. The Scorpions will announce their 12U Select Boys Team Head Coach and all assistant coaches at a later date.
