The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that Coach Renee Michiels will be responsible for implementing the fall/winter 2020-21 youth volleyball programs in Ayr Ontario.
Renee has been coaching with the club for three years. She is a former University of Windsor varsity player and has played volleyball for over 30 yrs. Paul Langan, President Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club, " Youth volleyball is alive and well in Ayr. Renee's enthusiasm last year lead to our programs being filled in our inaugural year in Ayr. She is the natural choice to continue to coach the young athletes and grow the program." The program in Ayr is a developmental program for boys and girls Grades 4-8. We are always reviewing the program and may extend ages depending on gym time available. Currently due to the pandemic we have not started registration yet. ![]() The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Tina Castelli has agreed to be on the board. Tracy Forshaw who has done a great job as Grant/Sponsorship Coordinator. Tracy has decided to step down and concentrate on the 13U Girls competitive team she is the head coach for. Paul Langan, President Scorpions Volleyball Club states, "We understand why Tracy Forshaw has stepped down from the board. Adding Tina Castelli was an easy decision. Her work at her school in the Hespeler community is well known. She is truly a community minded person. She will be a fantastic addition to the board." Arvin has over 20 years international coaching experience as well as being a trainer. Lexi Rosen is a former Scorpion who went on to play varsity for the University of Guelph Gryphons women's team. Highlights of Arvin and Lexi's career are included below. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball in 2019 expanded their Monday nights Grade 7 and 8 - Scorpions 2 development program from their original Hespeler location at Our Lady of Fatima School to a second location at St. Vincent de Paul in the south of Cambridge. The response was fantastic and both locations filled up. The Scorpions are now proud to announce that they will expand their Grade 5 and 6 - Scorpions 1 boys and girls developmental program. The popular Wednesday night Hespeler location at Our Lady of Fatima School will continue. The club has added a Tuesday night Grade 5 & 6 program at St. Vincent de Paul School. Paul Langan, President Scorpions Volleyball states, " I am so happy that we have had quality coaches step forward to run our development programs. This allows us to expand again in the south of Cambridge. I went to see the Grade 7/8 new program last year at St. Vincent de Paul school and there was a ton of energy and excitement in the gym. I am sure the addition of a second location for our Grade 5 and 6 program on Tuesday nights at St. Vincent will be just as popular." There is a fall and winter session for boys and girls. The fall session is $87.00 includes 9 weeks long. It includes a tournament and a Scorpions 10th Anniversary t-shirt. Due to pandemic we have not started registration. John Forman has been with the club for 6 years. He has 15 years coaching experience. A synposis of his experience is included below. Sandeep Manku is a primary school teacher in the Waterloo Region. Sandeep brings her youthful energy to the Grade 5/6 program. John and Sandeep will be running our successful Grade 5 and 6 program on Wednesday nights in the Hespeler part of Cambridge." ![]() The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club are very proud to announce that Tracy Liburd and Kelsey Caza are returning to the club to coach the Scorpions 12U Girls Competitive Team. Tracy has been coaching and playing for over 17 years and is returning for her 8th year to the club. She also is instrumental in the success of our expansion of the Scorpions 2 Grade 7/8 program in South Cambridge that started last year. Kelsey Caza is a former Scorpion and University of Waterloo Warrior varsity player that is returning to coach for her third year. She is part of a dynamic group of young coaches that have joined the club. Paul Langan, President of Scorpions Volleyball states, "Tracy and Kelsey have consistently coached teams ranking in the top 20 of volleyball in Ontario. I am so happy they are taking a younger team this year. The potential for our 12U girls team in unlimited with Tracy and Kelsey coaching them." Devon is a former competitive player with the Forest City Volleyball Club. He has been playing volleyball for 14yrs. He also has a history of coaching youth soccer. Paul Langan, Scorpions President states,"The continual growth of our boys program has necessitated the hiring of another competitive team coach. We need someone with a lot of energy to coach our 13U boys competitive team next year and Devon Maquire is that person. Devon has the drive and enthusiasm to take our boys team to the next level." Tryout dates for the 13U boys team are currently on hold due to the pandemic. They usually are in September. Renee Michiels will be the head coach for the program in Ayr Ontario.
Both Katelynn and Megan are previous competitive players with over 15yrs of playing experience. They previously coached competitive teams for the Scorpions. Katelynn returns for her second year in the Scorpions 1 program. Renee brings over 25yrs of playing experience, including playing for the U. of Windsor Lancer. She is also a head coach for our Scorpions 17U girls green competitive team. The Scorpions 1 program is for Grade 5 and 6 boys and girls wanting to learn volleyball. The fall and winter sessions are 9 weeks long and include three tournaments. The fall session cost is $90. Paul Langan, President of Scorpions Volleyball states, " Last year Katelynn ran a dynamic program. With Megan returning to coach in Cambridge for this program, we can continue to grow and expand to different areas of the city. Renee has started our volleyball program in Ayr in 2019 and it is now our fastest growing area in the club. I have consistently stated in the past, it is the coaches in our developmental program that are the foundation for the present and future success in the club."
