The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club had three teams playing last weekend in the Ontario Volleyball Association tournaments. All three teams returned homes with medals.
The Scorpions 14U Boys team travelled to Stratford and captured a GOLD medal in the Trillium Division. The boys worked hard. The tournament also featured the return of Coach James Evans to the 14u Boys coaching staff. The Scorpions 15U Aculeus Girls team travelled to Kitchener to capture a BRONZE medal in the Championship Division. Congrats to this team as they climb up the rankings. The Scorpions 15U Strong Girls team travelled to Simcoe to capture a GOLD medal in the Trillium Green Division. It was their first medal of the season. It was a fantastic gift to assistant coach Lee Boyadjian who was leaving the team after this tournament. She is moving to another province. It truly was a magical weekend for the Scorpions Volleyball Club.

The Scorpions 16U Fuzion team travelled to Simcoe for their first Ontario Volleyball Association Tournament of the season and came away with a GOLD medal in the 17U tournament. In Pool play they defeated the Waterloo Tigers Red 17U 25-5, 25-7 and Simcoe Xtreme 17U 25-8, 25-22. In the quarter finals they beat the Niagara Rapids Summit 17U 25-18, 25-10. In the semi finals they beat another Niagara team the Fury 16U Semi Finals. In the Gold medal match they defeated the Waterloo Tigers Black 17U in a tight three set battle 25-18, 21-25, 15-11. The team members are: Olivia Benzin, Lauren Letoile, Nahya Dalle Vedove, Leah Kruis, Logan Visscher, Marcela Bojanowicz, Skylar Litchfield, Victoria Cripps, Abbey Hamilton, Jaziah Colquhoun. Head Coach Tracy Liburd and Assistant Coach Mikhail Kazhamiaka. The Scorpions Volleyball Club held their first Coaches vs the 17/18U teams game at Preston High School gym. The beginning of the night was a bit of a challenge as the school board double booked Preston High School with a basketball tournament. That was no problem for the Scorpions and their fans as they set up additional seating in the other gym for a packed night of volleyball. It was exciting volleyball by all teams and the audience was enthusiastic, clapping and cheering at the many fantastic plays. Thanks to all for making this such a successful night of volleyball. The Scorpions Volleyball Club is very pleased to announce that former Scorpion player Mya Tostik will be playing for the Fanshawe Falcons varsity women's team for the 2017-2018 season. The Fanshawe Falcons play in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association league. Mya Tostik is from Cambridge Ontario. The goal of the program is to expose more athletes to both indoor and beach volleyball concepts as to create a broader and more skilled group of athletes in Ontario. All the Scorpion teams came to play on the last weekend of the OVA Volleyball Championships. There were strong performances by the Scorpions 13U Girls White , 15U Girls Synergy and 15U Boys teams played strong.
Two teams however raised their games to another level. The 16U Shockwave team, beat last years National champions Durham Attack, before losing to the number ranked provincially ranked London Forest City in a close three set battle in the Quarter finals. The Scorpions Shockwave finished tied for 5th place in Division 1 Tier 1, the highest division of volleyball in Ontario. The 13U Scorpions White team, who had already claimed a provincial medal in the previous 14U provincial tournament, started slow on Friday and Saturday. They came alive however on Sunday winning the Silver medal by defeating the Kitchener Predators in straight sets. Congrats to all the teams!. |
