The Scorpions 15U Synergy team came into the Volleyball Canada Eastern Canadian Nationals to prove they can play with the best in Canada. Ninety-six teams from Alberta to Newfoundland came to RIM Park in Waterloo for three days of competitions. They delivered winning a Division 1 Tier 1 Silver Medal.
In round robin the Scorpions beat the New Brunswick Tommies 25-6, 25-3 and the Nova Scotia Truro Cougars 25-10, 25-17. They finished off Friday losing to Halton Hurricanes 25-16, 25-15. On Saturday in Power Pool play the Scorpions stumbled against the Georgian Cubs 25-10, 25-11. The Scorpions rebounded beating a tough Ottawa Mavericks Ambush team in three sets 19-25, 25-13, 11-15. They finished the day defeating Scarborough Titans Revolution 25-22, 25-20. On Sunday in the playoffs the Scorpions were in Division 1, Tier 1 the highest division in Canada. In the quarter finals the Scorpions defeated the Mississauga Pakman in a tough three set battle 17-25, 25-21, 15-13. In the semi-finals they defeated the Quebec Libellules Bleues in straight sets 25-20, 25-21. In the gold medal game the Scorpions lost to the Halton Hurricanes in two sets. The Silver Medalist Scorpions 15U Synergy players are: Players: Olivia Benzin, Hailey Reilly, Jamie Paquette, Ciarra Collison, Hope Harnack, Maddi Mulholland, Veronika Kemperman, Angelina Markotic, Madie Coolman, Emily Aitken. Head Coach: Janet Cobbs Mulholland, Assistant Coach Chey Omand. ![]() The Scorpions held their end of the year banquet last week and handed out various awards to complete a very successful indoor season. The Scorpions club in six years has become the largest Indoor and Beach volleyball club in the Waterloo Region and area. It could not have happened without fantastic coaches, parents and players. Player of the year award went to future Brock University varsity player Amy Cureton. Team of the year award went to the 15U girls Synergy team, which ended with 5 Gold, 2, Silver and 1 Bronze medal. They also captured Gold in the Premier division during the season. That was a first for the club. Thanks to all teams for representing our club so well. |
