The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has once again met the criteria to become an accredited club through Volleyball Canada.
WireService.ca Press Release (03/23/2016) Cambridge, ON - The Ontario Volleyball Association has announced that the Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. of Cambridge, ON, qualified as an accredited volleyball club for the second year in a row by Volleyball Canada. Volleyball Canada is the national governing body for volleyball in Canada The Volleyball Canada Club Accreditation Program recognizes and rewards the contributions exceptional clubs make to the development of volleyball in Canada. It is awarded annually to clubs who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in several areas including coach, athlete and volunteer development, accountable governance, gender balance, and club capacity, among other criteria. Only five clubs in Canada have received this accreditation. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club are the only ones in the Waterloo Region to receive the accreditation multiple times. The club is the largest in the Waterloo Region and surrounding area. In 2015, the club had over 1000 registrations in their beach and indoor programs. Their beach volleyball program is one of the largest in Canada. ![]() CAMBRIDGE TIMES – Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club will expand its 2015-16 fall and winter youth volleyball programs. Club officials have redefined and expanded their developmental and house league programs for the upcoming season. Now, the Scorpions will add a program for boys and girls that begins in Grade 2, based on the Volleyball Canada Development Model, and will re-align the program to meet the intent of the Long Term Athlete Development Model, including the addition of circulation – mini volleyball and atomic volleyball. An estimate of 500 youth will be involved in their various indoor programs this season. The developmental program costs $75 per child, while the winter house league program costs $95. The club recently celebrated their fifth year anniversary. They had 500 youth in their indoor program and 350 in their beach volleyball programs in 2015. The club has refocused their energy on their developmental programs. They offer programs for boys and girls from Grade 2-12. The club uses only Volleyball Canada approved training programs and follows their Development Model. John Forman will be responsible for the Atomic Volleyball 1 program for Grades 5 and 6. Bernadine Verstraeten will be responsible for the Atomic Volleyball 2 program for Grades 7 and 8. WireService.ca Press Release (06/16/2015) Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. from Cambridge Ontario has over one thousand youth in their beach and indoor programs. It is estimated that the Scorpions Club will have approximately five hundred youth in their indoor programs in the fall. 18U Kelsey Caza and 17U Amy Cureton, who both play the middle position, were picked to attend the High Speed Performance Camp after a successful tryout held May 30th at Durham College. The High Performance Camp (HPC) will consist of approximately 48 athletes per gender/age training from June 27th-July 1st, 2015 at Nipissing University. Athletes will develop both physically from intensive on-court training, and mentally through scheduled classroom sessions covering the various aspects of what it takes to be a high performance athlete in volleyball. 24 athletes from the HPC and will be picked to represent Team Ontario and attend their training camp at Brock University starting July 1st.
