18U Scorpions Play Hard and Lose Tough Three Set Battle in the Quarter Finalsaa The Scorpions 17U team won a Division 3 Silver Medal at the recent Ontario Volleyball Association Provincial Championships.
At the same championships, the Scorpions 18U team playing in Division 2 had a successful weekend. The 18U Scorpions played strong winning 5 of 6 games on Friday and Saturday beating Georgian Cubs, Kingston VC, Barrie Elites, E381 and the Georgetown Raiders. In the quarter finals they lost a tight 3 set battle against Forest City London 25-19,27-29,12-15. The 17u Scorpions on Friday were undefeated winning in straight sets playing against EVP VC, Milton Edge and Lakers White VC. On Saturday they lost to Markham Thunder then beat Brant and Toronto West. On Sunday in the quarter finals they beat Markham Tigers 25-19, 25-21. In the semi finals they beat Brant VC 25-11, 25-17. In the finals they lost a close three set battle with Wave VC of Etobicoke 25-21, 14-25, 13-15. Team members of the 17U Scorpions are, Jamie Paquette, Caroline Aitken, Emily Vigh, Briana Anton, Alexandra Stanley, Hanna Tuinstra, Trinity Moniz, Rivanna Laslavic, and Angela Josifova. ![]() The Scorpions U15 Green team participated in the U15 Club division of the Motor City Madness Volleyball Tournament in Detroit Michigan this past weekend. There were 48 teams registered in the division. After play on Saturday the Scorpions U15 Green team were second in their pool after a pair 3 set wins beating the U15 Dead Frogs VBC from Kalamazoo Mi. (26-24, 14-25, 15-6) and Unified White U15 from Oakland County Mi. (23-25, 25-22, 15-10). Their only loss Saturday was in three sets to 2GVCI Turquoise from Columbus Ohio (9-25, 25-17, 15-10). Sundays play began with a challenge match. Their 2-0 win over MiElite Copper from Michigan (25-21, 25-22) secured their spot in the Gold division with the top 8 teams in the tournament. In their quarter-final the Scorpions defeated Unified U-15 Blue team 2-0 (25-21, 25-22). In the semi-finals the Scorpions were topped 2-0 by the Far Out U15 Red team from Grand Rapids Michigan (25-11, 25-19). On the final day of competition the Scorpions won some tight 3 set battles. In the quarter finals they defeated Halton Hurricanes Blue 25-17,11-25,16-14. In the semi finals it again went to three sets with the Scorpions defeating the Leaside Lightning 23-25 25-22,16-14. In the finals they lost in three to South County 23-25,25-22,5-15. Team Members are: Calinda Kok, Sierra Philippi, Avery Astorino, Stella Miller, Lauren Vanmanen, Crimson Biafore,,Maya MacMillan, Charlotte Spencer, Viktoria Josifova, Naiomi Tasker. The Scorpions Volleyball Club was well represented. On the First team for the Senior All-Stars is our Scorpions 16U Fuzion team member Olivia Benzin. She is in Grade 11 and a left side hitter. On the First team for the Junior All-Stars was Scorpions 16U Fuzion Nahya Dalle Vedove, and Scorpions 15U Green team members Chantal Lapierre and Gemma Piraino. On the Second team for the Junior All-Stars was Scorpions Rachael O'Dell also from the Scorpions 15U Green team. Congratulations to all the girls for this fantastic achievement. Scorpions 12U, 16U Fuzion and 17U Teams Play Well at Provincials!Three Scorpion teams were playing in Waterloo at the Ontario Volleyball Association Championships this weekend.
The 12U Scorpions played tough all weekend but lost in the bronze medal game to the Richmond Hill Thundercats in the bronze medal game. The 17U Scorpion team also had a good run beating teams like Scarborough Titans Evalation, Northbay Lakers before losing a tough three set loss to the Sky Volley of Windsor. The 16U Fuzion came home with the Bronze Medal in Division Two Tier 1. The team won two of three matches on Friday. Saturday they defeated South County Black, Kingston Pegasus Thunder adn Ottawa Maverick Wildcards. The final day saw Fuzion team beat Toronto West 25-17, 25-17. They then beat Scarborough Titans Integrated in three sets 25-18,21-25,15-4. They lost to the South County Bandits 16-25 and 17-25 in the semi final game. In the bronze medal game they beat the Barrie Elites 25-17, 25-21 to capture the medal. The team members are: Olivia Benzin, Lauren Letoile, Nahya Dalle Vedove, Leah Kruis, Logan Visscher, Marcela Bojanowicz, Skylar Litchfield, Victoria Cripps, Abbey Hamilton, Jaziah Colquhoun. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club will be announcing the winners of their Academic Excellence Award Busary at their competitive banquet on May 8th, 2018.
The bursaries currently are worth $500. and are given to 18U players who have obtained at least 85% in their final year of high school and will be attending post secondary school in the fall of 2018. Paul Langan, founder of Scorpions Volleyball Club states," The club is presently surprised this year that we may see as many as 4 members of our 18U team that will receive bursaries to help them in their future academic studies at college or university. I am confident in future that in our clubs budget we will be able to increase that amount significantly from the present $500. The players and parents receiving this award should be proud of this acomplishment." They both captured two trophies and the gold medal in their age groups. This was a first time in the history of the Scorpions Volleyball Club that teams captured gold on the same day at the same tournament.
Teams from London, Sarnia, Waterloo, Cambridge, Listowel and Minto participated in the tournmaent. 14U Scorpions White members are: Abir Shaqo,Amal Shaqo,Destiny Campbell,Chloe Leite,Lara Prosser,Morgan Pollon,Ashley McNaughton,Nicole Cekan,Eden Slotegraaf, Marissa Raymond, Milayna Mukhar,Nya Rego. Coaches are Patrcia Sofroniuc and Veronika Kemperman. 15U Scorpions White members are: Adrianna Dicristofaro,ALexandria Sutton,Kylia Cabral,Talia Conway,Meah O'Donnell,Meeah Lewis-Gostlin, Emily McGarr, Stella Galindo, Sophia Paris, Christine Murphy, Autmn Rose, Rachel Venzentan.
