On the weekend the 15U Scorpions Boys team travelled to London for their final OVA tournament leading up to the Ontario Championships. The boys fought hard placing 2nd in their pool. They defeated the 14U London Forest City the quarter finals and moved on to face the London Forest City 15U team in the semi finals where they lost 25-22, 20-25,7-15.
They played Oxford Crush in the Bronze medal match winning 25-13,28-26.The team is now ranked 7th in Ontario for the upcoming provincical championships. The boys team are: Sam Growden,Nate Lachambre,Matt Sheffield,Matthew Schmidt,Filip Marik, Britton Holman,Liam MacArthur,Sebastian Siedlec,Sean Jackson,Alex Blagojevic and Lenny Lombardi. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has once again met the criteria to become an accredited club through Volleyball Canada.
WireService.ca Press Release (03/23/2016) Cambridge, ON - The Ontario Volleyball Association has announced that the Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. of Cambridge, ON, qualified as an accredited volleyball club for the second year in a row by Volleyball Canada. Volleyball Canada is the national governing body for volleyball in Canada The Volleyball Canada Club Accreditation Program recognizes and rewards the contributions exceptional clubs make to the development of volleyball in Canada. It is awarded annually to clubs who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in several areas including coach, athlete and volunteer development, accountable governance, gender balance, and club capacity, among other criteria. Only five clubs in Canada have received this accreditation. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club are the only ones in the Waterloo Region to receive the accreditation multiple times. The club is the largest in the Waterloo Region and surrounding area. In 2015, the club had over 1000 registrations in their beach and indoor programs. Their beach volleyball program is one of the largest in Canada. The girls finished first in their pool after solid wins over first, London Hammerheads 25-8 25-13 and then Guelph Grizzlies Black 25-15 25-15. In the quarterfinals the Scorpions faced the Waterloo Tigers. The girls came through again with a two straight game victory 25- 18 25-23. In the Semi-finals the girls started out well taking the first set from the Kitchener Predators but were unable the close out the match losing two games to one. Set scores were 25-15, 20-25, and 10-15. In the bronze medal game the girls regrouped and came away with a set straight victory over Forest City Volleyball Club from London, set scores were 25-15 and 25 -17.
