Press Release: Scorpions Volleyball Announce the Hiring of 30 Coaches

The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is pleased to announce the hiring of 30 coaches for their 2017-18 indoor season.

WireService.ca Press Release (08/28/2017) Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club from Cambridge Ontario will have 16 competitive teams, 3 Learn to Play Programs and 3 Winter League Programs for boys and girls born 2010-2000 for the fall and winter indoor season.

The Scorpions are proud to announce that 30 coaches have agreed to coach for the club. The club has approximately 500 players in their indoor learn to play, house league and competitive programs.

Seventeen of the coaches hired are female. 

Paul Langan, founder of Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club states, "It is exciting with all the new coaches and the energy they bring. The club continues to grow and the need for coaches increases."

Scorpion's coaches all receive an honorarium, clothing and have their coaching courses paid.

The club still needs to hire one more head and assistant coach for one of their competitive teams. Please visit our website to fill out the application.

Forshaw and Kazhamiaka to Coach 14U Green Team

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Tracy Forshaw and Fiodar Kazhamiaka will coach the Scorpions 14U Green Team.

Tracy Forshaw is the head coach and is entering her fifth year of coaching for the Scorpions. Fiodar Kazamiaka will be the assistant coach and is entering his third year coaching for the club. Fiodar  represented Canada this past summer playing on the NORCECA beach tour. Fiodar is a former University of Waterloo varsity volleyball player.

Paul Langan, Founder of Scorpions Volleyball Club states, "It was important to me that we had a good coaching partnership for our 14U Green team. Tracy is very professional when dealing with young female athletes and their parents. She is a dedicated, sincere coach that has always taken her coaching role seriously.

Fiodar excels at the technical aspects of the game and also takes his coaching role seriously. I am so pumped to watch our 14U Green team improve under their guidance."

Verstraeten RETURNS TO COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Scorpions Volleyball club are proud to announce that Bernadine Verstraeten will return to the club for her 4th year to lead our Monday Night Grade 7 and 8 Atomic 2 Development Program.

Bernadine is a teacher with over twenty years of coaching experience. She recently won the  Oxford Learning Center’s Educator of the Year Award. She is a fully certified level 2 coach.

She understands the critical importance that our development program plays in our club. You can see her experience as a physical education teacher when she is on the court. She commands your attention."

Scorpions Volleyball Announce 2017-18 Indoor Season Tryout Dates

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce the tryout schedule for the boys and girls competitive teams for the 2017/18 indoor season.

WireService.ca Press Release (08/08/2017) Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Volleyball Club is the largest indoor and beach volleyball club in the Waterloo Region. They had over 1000 registered players in the club in 2016.

The club has finalized the schedule for the boys and girls competitive indoor teams for the 2016-2017 season. The tryouts will occur the weekend of September 9th and 10th, 2017 in Cambridge Ontario. Players are expected to attend both tryout days. There is no charge to attend the tryouts.

The club will have competitive girls teams for those born from 2000 to 2007. Girls born later than 2000 are welcome to tryout.

The club will competitive boys teams for those born 2003 to 2005. Boys born later than 2003 are also welcome to tryout.

 This will be the largest tryout in the clubs' seven year history.

Paul Langan, Founder of the club states, "Each year tryouts bring the start of another exciting season of youth volleyball to Cambridge. Volleyball continues to grow as an affordable sport for youth in the community. I look forward to seeing old and new faces come out to the tryouts."

New this year is the ability of players to preregister on-line for the tryouts to avoid the lineups on tryout day. See website link below to preregister.

CUNLIFFE JOINS SCORPIONS COACHING STAFF

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that ​Matthew Cunliffe has joined their coaching staff.

Matthew will help coach our Monsters Program for youth born 2008-2010. 

Matthew has an extensive indoor and beach playing experience. He played varsity volleyball with Humber College. He was named to their All-Century Team.

The Humber Hawks All-Century Team represent the best of Humber Varsity since the Programs inception up until the year 2000.

He has solid background in beach and indoor volleyball that will make him a tremendous asset to the club.  I can't wait to see him grow with the club and develop into one of our premier coaches."

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Tanya Healey and Jessica Frias are returning for their 3rd year to help coach our Atomic 1 Program for boys and girls on Grades 5 and 6.

The Atomic program is under the leadership of Samantha Singthong. The program runs Wednesday nights starting in October at Our Lady of Fatima School in Cambridge.

The Scorpions Volleyball Club are proud to announce that Andrew Aitken has accepted a position to coach our indoor Scorpions 15U Gold team this season.

Andrew has coached competitive for the Scorpions for 6 years and is a certified level 1 coach. He is still an active volleyball player in adult leagues.

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce that John Forman  and Brianna Downey will coach our Scorpions 15U Green girls team for the Indoor 2017-2018 season.

John has over 20 years coaching experience and is the only Level 3 trained Scorpions coach in the club.

His coaching background includes:
  •  NCCP Level 1 and 2 fully certified, Level 3 Theory and Technical
  • Head Coach - 10+ years club girls volleyball with Cambridge Volleyball Club U14/15/16 and Peel Selects Volleyball Club
  • Head Coach - 5 years with Scorpions Volleyball Club Competitive Team Coach
  • Coordinator/Coach - 5 years Developmental Program for Grade 5/6 youth Scorpions Volleyball Program
  • 10+ years Grade 7/8 Intermediate Volleyball Coach Public School Board
  • 2002 – 07 Assistant Coach Women’s program University of Guelph women’s program
  • 2001 Summer - Assistant Coach Girl’s Provincial B Team
  • 1999 – 2001 Summer – Head Coach Region 3 Team 
  • Madawaska Volleyball Camp 17 years head coach of girl’s cabin

Brianna Downey will be Johns assistant coach. Brianna is  former player with the club who has also held assistant coach roles in the club the last three years.

SAMANTHA SINGTHONG TO COACH ATOMIC 1 PROGRAM

The Scorpions Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Samantha Singthong will be the Head Coach for our Atomic 1 Volleyball Program for boys and girls born 2006-2007.

Samantha is the former captain of the Conestoga College Girls Varsity Team. She  has coached for 6 years including 2 as an Assistant Coach for the Scorpions Volleyball Club.

Paul Langan, Founder of Scorpions Volleyball Club states, " Sam has over the last two years in the club proven to be a valuable coach. She is a very positive upbeat person whose personality is infectious. She loves coaching in the development program and her passion shows on the court." 

The Atomic 1 Volleyball Program is a developmental program developed by Volleyball Canada. The program runs for 9 weeks running on Wednesday nights starting in October. It is held at Our Lady of Fatima School. Cost is only $75. and includes a December 9th tournament and t-shirt.
