![]() Scorpions Volleyball player Lexi Rosen, a 6'4" middle blocker, has signed with the University of Guelph women's varsity volleyball team. WireService.ca Press Release (04/23/2015) Cambridge, Ontario - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is proud to announce the first of several of their players who have signed to play varsity volleyball at college or university in September 2015. 18U Scorpion player Lexi Rosen has had various offers but has decided to attend the University of Guelph and accept a scholarship to play for the Guelph Gryphons women's team. Coach Funk describes the addition of Lexi as "a big asset to the squad for years to come." Lexi on why she chose Guelph. "I decided to attend the University of Guelph because of the school's great reputation for excellence in academics, sports and student life. I look forward to joining the volleyball program at Guelph and to help contribute to its success."Lexi will be enrolled in the Human Nutrition program at Guelph in the Fall. ![]() The Scorpions Venom 16U girls competitive team completed recently in the Ontario Volleyball Association Championships at RIM Park. The Venom started slowly on the 1st day of the tournament losing to MS. Pakmen and London Fire Intensity. The Scorpions returned to winning form dominating the Kitchener Predators in straight sets 25-11, 26-24. On Saturday the Scorpions Venom were on fire winning all three matches. They beat the Galaxy Eclipse 25-17, 24-26, 15-12, Niagara Rapids Blue 27-25 26-24, and DRVC Whitby 25-20, 25-22. On Sunday the Scorpions faced the 3rd ranked team in Ontario and lost to the Aurora Storm 25-15, 25-18, thus eliminating them from the tournament. The Scorpions Venom Team on Sunday were ranked 9th at the Ontario Championships for Division 1 Tier 1 volleyball. It was an impressive year for the team. The team wanted to prove the ranking was not representative of their team. The team ended up with a SILVER medal and moving up 10 spots in the rankings! The Empress fought hard over the three day tournament. On Friday they defeated the Niagara Rapids 22-25,25-19,15-10 and the Cornwwall Vikings 19-25,25-20,15-5. Their only loss came to the Toronto Diamonds 25-20, 16-25, 8-15. On Saturday, the Empress won all three matches. They defeated the Lombardy Airforce 25-7,25-8. Wiboke E381 25-14, 25-14 and the Belleville Ravens 25-16, 21-25, 15-12. On Sunday, each game is do or die and the Empress came to play. Scorpions defeated Markam Stingers 25-2. 25-11, Toronto Galaxy Vortex 225-23, 25-15. In the semi finals they defeated the London LVC Fire 25-15, 25-19. This set up the gold medal show down with the Toronto Diamonds in which they lost 25-22,25-22 winning them the Silver medal. The Scorpions 16U Empress are: Cheyenne Verstraeten,Tara Omand,Natasha Marchildon,Sydney Beechey,Elyssa Trotter, Maya Warchalowski,Sonya Wideman,Bronte McCracken,Taylor French,Mya Tostik. Coaches are Bernadine Verstraeten and Susanna Meteer. ![]() The Scorpions 15U Slammers entered the Ontario Volleyball Association Provincials 3 day Championships this past weekend and won a Division 1 Tier 2 Bronze Medal. On Friday , they lost to North Bay VC 21-25, 25-14, 13-15. They then defeated the Ottawa Maverick 26-24, 27-25 and lost to Etobicoke E381 23-25, 21-25. On Saturday They lost to the Orillia Suns Nova 25-23,25-27, 10-15. They then defeated Durham Attack 14U - 25-19, 25-13, and the London LVC Fire - 25-19, 25-22. On the Sunday final day. They got revenge and defeated the NBVC 25-16, 25-19 and the quarter finals they defeated 11th ranked Toronto Phoenix Heat 17-25.25-22,16-14 in a barnburner. In the Semis they were defeated Barrie Elites Black 25-8, 27-25. In the bronze medal game they beat a tough Oakville Thunder Blue tam 25-16, 18-25, 15-8. The 15U Scorpions Slammers are: Melanie Faber,Hailey Cole,Hope Harnack,Sara Jenkins, Lauren Reycraft,Sara Dubrick,Dakota Kersting,Rachel Maier,Tove Petersen,Liana Roller, Emma Mackey,Brianne Banderob.
