![]() Cambridge Times - CAMBRIDGE – Scorpions Competitive Beach Volleyball Club duo Kayla Gallant (left) and Jenna Benz won a gold medal recently at the Ontario Volleyball Association Region 3 qualifier for the Ontario Summer Games. The pair are the first competitive beach duo to represent the club at the Summer Games, which is in August in Windsor. The team plays in the under-15 division, but moved up to under-16 for qualifying and won 12 or the 13 sets they played, beating a Chatham team 15-12 in the tiebreaker in the final.

IGNITE is an exciting new community partnership program that enables individuals, organizations and communities to create their own special Games-themed initiative, or increase awareness of existing projects through an association with the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games—the “People’s Games.” The Scorpions application has been approved to host a community youth grass volleyball tournament on June 30th, 2015 to support healthy living and the spirit of the games. The Scorpions will have up to 40 courts set up. Each court will be named to represent a country participating in the Pan Am/ Parapan Am Games. Paul Langan Founder of Scorpions Volleyball states;” We are very excited to host this community initiative that promotes community sport and the Games that will be held in 2015. Our upcoming youth grass volleyball tournament on June 30th 2014 will be an excellent way to build up excitement for the expanded IGNITE 2015 tournament in Cambridge June 30th, 2015.” The Scorpions Volleyball Club is the largest beach and indoor volleyball club in the Waterloo Region with over 1000 youth registered in 2013. Kaitlyn has completed her university studies at the Bowling Green University in Ohio.
Kaitlyn played on the Division 1 NCAA Bowling Green Falcons volleyball team. Kaitlyn was depended on heavily by her coaches and started in all 30 games in her last season. Kaitlyn also graduated Magna Cum Laude with Departmental Honours in Biology. Minored in Chemistry. Specialized in Pre-Med. Paul Langan, president of Scorpions Volleyball Club, " Kaitlyn has chosen to coach for the Scorpions club and we are thrilled to have her. She is a Cambridge resident that has played at the highest level of USA university volleyball. She will be a valuable asset to the club."
