![]() Cambridge Times - WATERLOO REGION – The under-15 Scorpions girls’ volleyball team won a silver medal in Division 2, tier 1 at the Ontario Volleyball Championships at RIM Park in Waterloo. The Scorpions started on a winning note, beating all three teams – the Twin Bridges Thunder, Durham Region VC and ACT Elites – on the first day of competition. The next day, the Scorpions faced stiff competition and started slow, losing to Ottawa Fusion 2-0 (20-25, 22-25). In their second game, the girls showed they knew how to compete and destroyed Defensa VC 2-0 (25-15, 25-11), but lost their next match to Scarborough Invasion 2-0 (20-25, 17-25) On the final day, it was win to continue or lose and leave. The Scorpions started off by beating the Northumberland Breakers 2-1 (25-10, 23-25, 15-10) and then dropped the Ottawa Mavericks 2-1 (21-25, 25-17, 18-16) in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals, the Scorpions defeated ACT Elites again 2-0 (25-20, 25-19) to move to the finals against Kaizen VC. After a first set loss, the girls rallied to win the second set, but dropped the tiebreaker 15-13, finishing in second place.

WireService.ca Press Release (01/01/2014) Cambridge, Ontario - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is expanding its competitive beach coaching staff. The Scorpions Beach Volleyball Program is one of the most extensive in Canada. The program consists of Learn to Play, House League, Competitive Duos and Grass Volleyball. They estimate 500 youth will be registered in their beach program including approximately 30 duos participating in the OVA Beach Tour. The club have hired Tom Podstawka, a former Canadian National Junior Beach Team Member, 2X National Beach Champion, 2X Provincial Beach Champion and former indoor varsity university and college player. Paul Langan, President Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club states," Paul Podstawka,Tom's brother, is already making a positive contribution to our club.
