Bernadine Verstraeten and Steve Furnace to Coach Grade 7 & 8 Scorpions 2 Development Program8/2/2019 ![]() The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is proud to announce that Bernadine Verstraeten and Steve Furnace are returning to run our Grade 7 and 8 Scorpions 2 Development Program this October. Bernadine is a teacher and has been coaching volleyball for approximately 20 years and is an elite developmental coach. Steve Furnace will be Bernadine's Assistant Coach. Steve has been volunteering with the Monday night program for 8 years and plays volleyball in the adult leagues. Paul Langan, Founder of the club states, " The respect that Bernadine gets from the parents and players in the program is well deserved. When it comes to teaching skill development to our players Bernadine is exceptional. Having Steve help Bernadine each year makes for a fantastic program. ![]() The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club is very proud to announce that Raluca Oprean will be the head coach for the Scorpions 14U White Girls team. Raluca is a former Scorpion competitive player. Her assistant coach will be Catalin Oprean. The Scorpions 14U White Team plays in the Southwest League. Samantha is the former captain of the Conestoga College Girls Varsity Team. She has coached for 6 years including 2 as an Assistant Coach for the Scorpions Volleyball Club. She is a very positive upbeat person whose personality is infectious. She loves coaching in the development program and her passion shows on the court." The Atomic 1 Volleyball Program is a developmental program developed by Volleyball Canada. The program runs for 9 weeks running on Wednesday nights starting in October. It is held at Our Lady of Fatima School. Cost is only $75. and includes a December 9th tournament and t-shirt. Club officials have redefined and expanded their developmental and house league programs for the upcoming season. Now, the Scorpions will add a program for boys and girls that begins in Grade 2, based on the Volleyball Canada Development Model, and will re-align the program to meet the intent of the Long Term Athlete Development Model, including the addition of circulation – mini volleyball and atomic volleyball. An estimate of 500 youth will be involved in their various indoor programs this season. The developmental program costs $75 per child, while the winter house league program costs $95. WireService.ca Press Release (07/15/2015) Cambridge, ON - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club based out of Cambridge, Ontario is one of only 5 volleyball clubs in Canada accredited by Volleyball Canada. The club recently celebrated their fifth year anniversary. They had 500 youth in their indoor program and 350 in their beach volleyball programs in 2015. The club has refocused their energy on their developmental programs. They offer programs for boys and girls from Grade 2-12. The club uses only Volleyball Canada approved training programs and follows their Development Model. John Forman will be responsible for the Atomic Volleyball 1 program for Grades 5 and 6. Bernadine Verstraeten will be responsible for the Atomic Volleyball 2 program for Grades 7 and 8.
