It has been an outstanding season for the 15U Scorpions Fuzion Volleyball team. They began in September with high hopes of improving their standings over the previous year to win another Provincial Medal. The team came home with hardware in 9 of their 11 tournaments (4 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze). capping off the regular season with a Gold. This set them up for a run at the Ontario Volleyball Championships April 28-30.
On day 1 the team finished first in their pool to advance. On day 2 the team started out strong with a straight sets win against the 7th ranked team in the Province. Playing shorthanded with 2 athletes out due to injury they battled but lost to 2 strong teams. Day 3 dawned with the knowledge that you win or go home. In the Quarter Finals, Fuzion faced their rivals the Kitchener Predators who entered the tournament ranked 5th in the Province. The Scorpions came from behind in both sets to win 26-24, 26-24. In the semi finals Fuzion faced the 8th ranked team from Georgetown. This was a rematch of the 16U Provincials opening game 2 weeks prior where Georgetown came out on top in 2 straight sets. The roles were reversed this time and Fuzion took the first set 25-21 and battled after being down 12 points to come back and win 31-29. In the Gold Medal match Scorpions faced a strong Etobicoke Titans Team. Fuzion fought hard but couldn't summon the come from behind magic that had worked for them all day and lost 22-25, 24-26. This Division 1, Tier 2 Silver Medal puts them in Elite company. Top 10 in the Province in a field of 138 teams. Next stop National Championships May 11-14 at RIM Park
